Oracle VP Outlines Future for Analytics
Speaking at Codec’s annual Oracle event at the Westin Hotel on November 17, special guest John Hagerty, Vice President for Analytics at Oracle addressed the increasingly important role analytics can play as we enter into the age of big data.
Hagerty begun by stressing the need to redefine what analytics means in the modern business world, that it had advanced to make high level technical or specialist knowledge almost redundant and could now empower businesses towards a new self-service model so that they could have the capability to access, analyse and report on specific data points more quickly and easily.
What is GDPR and why should it concern you?
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is probably the most significant development in the history of data protection law, and has come about as modern technologies have become smarter and more powerful with regard to processing and collecting personal data.
The new regulation will come into effect on 25 May 2018 across the EU and was drafted to ensure that businesses of all sizes take their responsibilities of working with data more seriously. Failure to do so could result in fines of up to €20m or penalties of up to 4% of turnover, and data protection experts warn that businesses of all sizes will be made examples of unless they can demonstrate evidence of compliance with the new law.
Microsoft Outline Value of Digital Transformation to Irish Businesses
Speaking at Codec’s 2017 Microsoft Event, Aisling Curtis began her presentation with a bold statement - the Commercial Director for Microsoft Ireland announced that Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and organisation in the planet to achieve more. And how might Microsoft’s grand ambitions be realised – the answer in a word (or two) is digital transformation according to Curtis.
She explained that “there is quite a bit of confusion about what digital transformation actually is, some say it’s just a buzzword and that it doesn’t really affect them. In fact, if you peel it back it is literally the next step in business evolution, utilising technology to gain competitive advantage”.
Announcing the next step forward for ERP
Microsoft’s Tier 1 ERP system was first released way back in 1998 and has since gone through 9 major releases. The latest one redefines what ERP does, how people work with it, and the value it delivers for organisations.
Gartner Office 365 Survey
More than three quarters (78%) of IT decision-makers surveyed in a recent poll carried out by Gartner are currently using or intend using Office 365 software and services in the coming year. This figure represented an increase of 13 percentage points compared with the results from the previous Office 365 research conducted by Gartner back in 2014.
Those participants who are currently using it seem reasonably content too, scoring Office 365 at a mean average of 5.3 on a scale from 1 to 7 when rating their level of satisfaction with product.
